La Jeunesse l'Emporte...

C’est une première pour le XIX° Monte Carlo Squash Classic, la finale a été 100 % égyptienne. Elle opposait Omneya Abdel Kawy, vainqueur de l’édition 2010 et numéro 11 mondiale à la très jeune Nouran Gohar, seulement 17 ans et numéro 22 mondiale.

Le premier jeu offrait un spectacle à la hauteur de l’évènement, toutefois Omneya commettait trop de fautes, et Nouran arivait à bien ressortir les attaques d’Omneya, après 4 balles de jeux sauvées, Nouran remportait le premier jeux 15/13.

Le second jeu vit le réveil d’Omneya qui maitrisait parfaitement le T et faisait beaucoup moins de fautes que dans le jeu précédent. Alors qu’elle menait 7/2, Nouran se reprenait et revenait au score pour mener 8/7, mais c’est sans compter sur l’expérience d’Omneya qui remportait le second jeu 12/10.

Les jeux se suivent et ne se ressemblent pas, dans le troisième jeu, Nouran, que l’on pensait un peu émoussée physiquement par les deux jeux précédents se reprit et commettait beaucoup moins de fautes dans ses attaques qui étaient d’une très grande précision ce qui lui permit de remporter le jeu 11/7.

A l’inverse du précédent, c’était au tour d’Omneya d’enchainer les coups gagnant à l’interceptions à la vollée, Nouran se défendait bien, mais ce n’était pas suffisant et elle concédait le jeu 11/7.

Le cinquième jeu, qui était pour le plus grand plaisir des spectateurs, les deux joueuses faisaient l’étalage de leur talent, mais c’est Nouran qui prenait le large et menait 10/6, à ce moment Omneya faisait parler toute son expérience, mais c’était insuffisant pour déstabiliser la jeune Nouran qui remportait le match 11/9 et accrochait ainsi son premier titre à Monaco.

La remise des prix a eu lieu en présence du Dr Bruno Fissore (Président de la Fédération Monégasque de Squash Rackets), Jacques Fontaine (Président de la Fédération Française de Squash), Raoul Viora (Président du Monte Carlo Squash Rackets Club) et Emmanuel Crouin (Président de la ligue PACA de squash).

« Because we know each other, and as Omneya has got a very good experience in that kind of matchs, I tried to change my game and put her under preasure.

 I like this tournament, specially now that I have win my first big title here”!

Gohar Grabs Monte Carlo Jackpot

Egyptian teenager Nouran Gohar grabbed the biggest title of her life - and maintained her unbeaten record in WSA finals - when she upset experienced compatriot and former champion Omneya Abdel Kawy in the final of the Monte Carlo Classic.

The 19th staging of the WSA Silver 25 squash event produced its first all-Egyptian final - and one of the longest. Fourth seed Abdel Kawy, the world No11 and champion in 2010, was unable to convert four game balls in the opening game as underdog Gohar, the 17-year-old world No22, took an early lead.

The second again went to extra points, but this time Abdel Kawy prevailed to draw level.

After the next two games were shared, the capacity crowd was treated to a dramatic decider. Eighth seed Gohar reached match ball at 10-6 - but Abdel Kawy took the next three points in a row to reduce the deficit before Gohar converted her fourth chance to win the title for the first time after 73 minutes.

And it's a First All Egyptian Final in MC

Omneya Abdel Kawy and Nouran Gohar will battle for the Women's Monte Carlo Classic title in the first all-Egyptian final in the 19-year history of the WSA event.

Eighth seed Gohar, the 17-year-old world No22 from Cairo who reached last year's semi-finals as a qualifier, produced her second upset in 24 hours when she beat second-seeded Indian Dipika Pallikal.

The world No16 from Chennai led 2/0 and looked on course to become the event's first Indian finalist.

But plucky teenager Gohar was in no mood to concede - and took the next three games in convincing style to overcome Pallikal 9-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 11-2 in 70 minutes.

The win marked Gohar's fifth victory over a world top 20 player in the last two months.

By contrast, experienced world No11 Abdel Kawy achieved her semi-final win in half the time. The No4 seed ended the impressive run of compatriot Habiba Mohamed Ahmed, the unseeded 15-year-old who ousted top seed and defending champion Camille Serme 24 hours earlier.

Abdel Kawy had to be at the top of her game to see off Ahmed 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 in 36 minutes - a win which takes the 2010 champion from Cairo into the 31st Tour final of her illustrious career.

Le choc égypto-égyptien du soir opposait l’expérimentée et habituée des courts monégasques : Omneya Abdel Kawy (vainqueur de l’édition 2010) face à la très jeune Habiba Mohamed.

A l’image du match d’hier soir Habiba imprimait d’entrée un rythme très soutenu, mais Omneya maitrisait parfaitement son adversaire et empochait le gain du premier jeu 11/5.

 Le second jeu était à l’image du premier, Omneya maitrisait parfaitement le jeu et interceptait un très grand nombre de balle à la volley qui lui permettaient de finir rapidement l’échange et de gagner le jeu 11/6.

Habiba se ressaisissait dans le début du troisième jeu, en mettant le même poids sur la balle, sauf que ce n’était pas suffisant pour déstabiliser Omneya qui après avoir été parfois empêchée de jouer la balle réussissait à remporter le jeu et le match 11/9.

Dans la seconde demi finale du soir, la très jeune égyptienne Nouran Gohar à l’expérimentée indienne Dipika Palikal. La physionomie était différente du précédent, Dipika maitrisait la fougue de Nouran, faisant preuve d’une grande sérénité et remportait le premier jeux 11/9. Dans le second jeu, Nouran, après avoir longtemps mené craquait sur la fin et perdait 12/10.

Sur le troisième jeu, Nouran retrouvait sa précision et commettait très peu de fautes qui allait lui permettre de le remporter 11/8. Le quatrième était bis repetitat du précédent, Dipika commettait trop de fautes pour pouvoir prétendre s’imposer dans le jeu 11/8 pour Nouran.

Dans le 5°, suite à une interruption pour saignement de Nouran, le jeu reprenait, à l’image des précédents et Nouran s’imposait 11/2.

Pour la première fois, il y aura une finale 100 % égyptienne.

Three Egyptians for Fourth Seats...

Egyptian-led upsets continued to dominate proceedings as teenagers Habiba Mohamed and Nouran Gohar ousted experienced opponents to secure surprise semi-final berths.

Unseeded Mohamed, a 15-year-old from Alexandria, masterminded her second shock win over world No6 Camille Serme in three months when she twice fought from behind to topple the top seed from France 4-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-6, 11-8 in 75 minutes.

Habiba's mighty win guarantees Egyptian interest in the final for the first time for four years as the new world No24 now faces compatriot Omneya Abdel Kawy, the winner of the title in 2010.

Fourth seed Kawy stopped another teenage upset when she prevailed 5-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-13, 11-2 over 17-year-old Alexandria-born qualifier Mariam Metwally.

Gohar denied WSA veteran Madeline Perry the chance of a fourth appearance in the final when she beat the 37-year-old third seed from Belfast 11-2, 12-10, 15-13. Former world No3 Perry was runner-up in 2005, 2009 and 2012.

Nouran, the 17-year-old world No22 from Cairo, now takes on Dipika Pallikal, the second seed who is bidding to become the first Indian to reach the final.

The world No16 from Chennai made it a bad night for Ireland when she defeated Perry's international team-mate Aisling Blake, the world No37 from Sligo, 11-5, 11-4, 11-2.

Le choc du soir a délivré toutes ses promesses. Le premier jeu était parfaitement dominé par Camille qui réussit à s’imposer 11/4.

Le second jeu allait avoir une toute autre physionomie, l’égytienne mettait un très gros pressing sur Camille qui n’arrivait pas à trouver de solution et perdait 11/7. Le troisième était à l’image du second, Camille était menée 7/2 mais revenait au score pour s’imposer de justesse 12/10 avec de très grosses prises de risque.

Malheureusement l’égyptienne continuait toujours son pressing sans jamais baisser physiquement alors que l’on sentait que Camille avait un coup de moins bien et concédait le quatrième jeux 11/6. Dans le cinquième, les premiers points furent accrochés jusqu’à 6 égalité, mais Camille ne trouvait aucune solution et commettait trop de fautes et perdit le jeu 11/8. Habiba s’impose une seconde fois de la saison sur Camille dans un match indécis jusqu’au bout qui a tout de même duré 75 minutes.

Second match du jour, ce fut en fait une formalité pour Dipika qui maitrisa facilement son sujet et ne fut jamais vraiment inquiétée par une Aisling qui était déjà contente d’arriver à ce stade de la compétition. Elle s’impose 3 jeux à rien en 24 minutes.

Le choc égypto-égyptien du soir opposait Mariam Metwally qui sortait des qualifications face à Omneya Abdel Kawy (vainqueur de l’édition 2010). Le premier jeu vit la fougue de la jeunesse l’emporter 11/5. Les second et troisième jeux allaient voir le réveil d’Omneya qui fit l’étalage de tout le talent qu’on lui connait pour les remporter 11/6 11/4. Le quatrième jeu vit revenir Mariam, qui avait encore des ressources suffisantes pour résister aux attaques de sa compatriote et donnait toutes ses ressources pour le gagner 13/11. Malheureusement dans le dernier jeu, Omneya se reprenait et empochait le match sur 11/2. Mariam a démontré, malgré sa jeunesse, qu’elle avait toutes sa place dans le tableau final.

Dans le dernier match du soir, la très jeune égyptienne Nouran Gohar à l’expérimenté irlandaise Madeline Perry.

Dès le premier jeu l’égyptienne imposait un rythme très élevé et le remportait 11/2. Dans le second jeu Madeline se réveillait et commençait à faire douter son adversaire sans pouvoir concrétiser et perdait 12/10.

Le troisième jeu était un des plus disputés et dans lequel on pouvait voir tout le talent des deux joueuses, Madeline eu tout de même 3 balles de jeux, mais ne réussissait pas à les faire tourner à son avantage. Elle concédait ainsi le jeu et le match 15/13.

Pour la première fois, il y aura 3 égyptiennes en demi-finales.

If the two top seed are through with no damage 3-0, under 40 minutes, Camille Serme, WR6, against Sam Cornett and Dipika Pallikal against Tesni Evans, the young Egyptians have caused a bit of damage, as they do rather often these days bless them.

Habiba Mohamed continues to impress, chewing Tough Cookie Sarah Kippax in three games and 33m, no push over in any shape or form is Sarah, only proving how dangerous the Junior World Champion is. Habiba is making her debut in the event after celebrating a career-high world No24 ranking this month.

Same punishement for Line Hansen against Mariam Metwally, 17, currently boasting a career-best world ranking of 52 and also a Monte Carlo Classic debutante, Metwally only 17. Mariam took the match  3/0 as well, 37m.

If Habiba is playing local favorite StarCam in the quarters, Qualifier Mariam will be playing Omneya Abdel Kawy who wins the "shortest match of the day" award against Qualifier Amanda Landers-Murphy. The 29-year-old fourth seed from Cairo - who made her debut in the 2001 championship clinched the title in 2010....

Fourth Egyptian in the draw, Nouran Gohar broke French hearts beating Coline Aumard in a tight 3/0, with the French girl leading 8/4 in the 3rd before bowing 11/9.

Madeline Perry proves that she's still a force to be recon with, experience overtook youth, Olivia Blatchford did take the first game 11/9, but lost the next three.

Nice performance from the other Irish of the draw, Aisling Blake, 33, back from injury, and beating Nicolette Fernandes, ranked 17 places higher. The Irish will be extremely pleased to be back at her best level, she's been struggling for several months now. Truly happy to see her back.

Le match d’ouverture du premier tour du 19° Monte Carlo Squash Classic opposait l’expérimentée danoise Line Hansen à la jeune Mariam Metwally qui sortait des qualifications. Et c’est cette dernière qui réussissait l’exploit d’éliminer la tête de série n°7 du tournoi dans une partie où elle a réussi à contenir son adversaire et en ne lui laissant que très peu d’opportunités.

Dans le second match opposant Coline Aumard à Nouran Gohar, on peut dire que c’est le match des regrets. En effet, Coline a réussi à faire douter la jeune égyptienne tout le long de la partie. Les deux premiers jeux, très serrés au score ont vu se détacher l’Egyptienne vers la fin. Alors que dans le troisième jeux Coline mène 8/4, elle se fait remonter en commentant quelques erreurs et s’incline 11/9.

L’Egyptienne Omneya Abdel Kawy n’a eu aucun souci majeur pour disposer de la Néo Zélandaise Amanda Landers Murphy, on a pu admirer toute sa maîtrise du jeu et sa raquette toujours aussi efficace.

Madeline Perry était opposée à la jeune américaine Olivia Blatchford sortie des qualifications. Telle un métronome, Madeline imposait son rythme soutenu sur Olivia, toutefois cette dernière ne se laissait pas faire et remportait le premier jeu. Mais l’expérience allait parler en faveur de Madeline qui gagnait par la suite les 3 autres jeux sans être trop inquiétée.

Un des matchs chocs du soir fut celui opposant la guyanaise Nicolette Fernandes à l’irlandaise Aisling Blake. Le match démarrait sur les chapeaux de roues et Nicolette remportait le premier jeu, alors qu’Aisling le second, et enfin Nicolette le troisième sans que l’une ne prenne l’ascendant sur l’autre. Toutefois, dans le quatrième jeu, Nicolette avait une baisse de régime en commettant trop de fautes, ce qui permit à Aisling de gagner ce jeu et de refaire le même scénario dans le cinquième.

Le deuxième choc du soir était celui de Sarah Kippax face à la plus jeune du tournoi Habiba Ahmed. C’est la plus jeune qui l’emportait face à une anglaise qui semblait ne pas arriver à contrôler le match et le faire tourner en sa faveur, l’Egyptienne mettant beaucoup de pression sur la balle.

Camille Serme a fait le match qu’il fallait contre Samatha Cornett afin de ne pas trop laisser d’influx au premier tour et rester en pleine forme pour la suite de la compétition, elle remporte le match par 3 jeux à 0.

Enfin, Dipika Pallikal clôturait la soirée face à la Galloise Tesni Evans et les deux premiers jeux était remportés par Dipika sans trop de problèmes. Le troisième jeu allait être tout autrement, Tesni eut plusieurs occasions de remporter le jeu sans toutefois y arriver, elle commettait trop de fautes qui lui ont été préjudiciables et qui ont permis à l’indienne de sa qualifier pour la suite.
