FRED
CHATS TO THE PLAYERS |
Anna:
Right now I am sad to have lost in the final of
qualification, eventhough it was a good match. A lot of
running, maybe a bit too much.
This was my last tournament before summer, now it is time to
rest a bit and start the summer preparation.
Even if it was a bit too short for me here, I really enjoyed
it. It is one of the nicest squash club I have ever been to.
Hopefully next time i will enjoy it a bit longer here
Thanks a lot to the organisation !
Moc dekuji !
Enora:
The season is now over !
I won the first round of qualifying against tessa ter sluis
3-2 after a very « up and down » match and then i lost to
the egyptian mayar hany mohamed. It could have been a closer
match if I was feeling better mentally and physically but
today i was not enough into it to put her under pressure.
Anyways it’s always a pleasure to have a tournament « at
home » especially in such an amazing venue so thanks to the
whole organization and to fred.
Enjoy your holidays everyone !
Georgina:
I am very happy to be playing in my first tournament in
France at such a beautiful venue . I am dissapointed to have
lost in the qualifying finals but i will hopefully be back
to try and do better next year.
Thank you to the organisers and the players and good luck to
the english girls for the remainder of the tournament ! |
Latasha:
It is great to have the pyamides back on the calendar . Fred
and his team do a great job. Its one of our best events. I
enjoyed playing both my matches.
Natalie:
Ditto to everything Latasha said ;) … great tournament, the
girls always enjoy themselves here, great to see it back on
the calendar and a huge thanks to fred for doing such a
fantastic job.
I have really enjoyed being back here (yes , even on the hot
courts)
Mayar:
It's a lovely place to play in. I am happy with my
performance in this tournament. Also, I liked the club and
the atmosphere so much and I really would like to come back
here next year.
Nele:
Best win of my career so far beating Donna in the quarter
final, still can’t believe it !
Then lost to Natalie, gave it all got but wasn’t to be, plus
I had had two hard matches before. What a great way to end
the season though !
Outside squash O loved every minute of the event. Fred and
his team did a great job organising this event and took good
care of us, amazing venue, good food ..
Definitely my new favourite tournament !
Belen:
I’m glad to be here again. It’s my favorite tournament
because of the people and the sponsor and of course director
Fred. It’s very professional and they always trying to help
us.
I played against a young egypt player and she was really
good I wish her the best for the tournament.
This was my last tournament and I really enjoy it. Merci
pour tout. Always making me feel at home
Muchas gracias |

BEREZINA IN PARIS!
Well, in French, it means that it didn't go very well (ref
to a battle lost by Napoléon in 1812!). And it didn't go
well at all for the top seeds as only Emily Whitlock
managed to survive, beating French Cyrielle Peltier 3/0 in
25m.
The
match I thought would be the most disputed wasn't. I was
surprised by the score to be honest, as I know that Latasha
is a fighter, and losing a match in 17m, even against
Natalie Grinham, didn't seem logical to me. Oh well,
what do I know.
The
two upsets are of course young Belgium Nele Gilis
that got the better of DonnaPova in 43m and 4 games while
qualifier Mayar Hany beat Lucie Fialova on the same
score, one minute shorter though....
The semis today should be interesting with contrasting
styles/experience, Emily/Mayar and Natalie/Nele! Should be
veryyyy entertaining.

Not a good day for France
Well, only Cyrielle Peltier
reached the quarters, and that was not the way she wanted it
really, with Marie Stephan - another French based in
the States at the moment - having to retire due to injury.
A bit disapointed I'm sure for Laura Pomportes, #5,
to bow 3-1 to Qualifier Mayar Hany Mohamed, but then
again, she is Egyptian and that mean you never know what to
expect but talent and determination! Pressure was probably
on Laura, whereas Mayar was just playing her game....
The last French in the draw, Chloé Mesic, had a good
fight against [3] Lucie Fialova, 3/1 on a very tight
score, 8/11, 11/9, 11/7, 11/9 (46m).
Nele Gilis had to also fight hard against English
Qualifier Alison Thomson, 7/11, 12/10, 11/2, 11/6 in
the longest match of the day, 54m. It was completely
different for her quarter's opponent tomorrow, Donna
Urquhart, 18m against Egyptian Menna Nasser.
The match to watch tomorrow with be between two of
the toughest players on the tour, Latasha Khan and
Natalie Grinham, who despatched of Thaisa Serafini and Victoria Temple-Murray
in 23m and 14m respectively. |

NADA IN CONTROL
Perfect
start to the event for the young Nada Abbas, as she
is yet to lose a game, and hasn't spent a whole hour on
court yet out of two matches!
Today, she executed qualifying top seed Belen Etchechoury in 22m to reach
the main draw, where she'll meet the top girl Emily Whitlock.
Another upset, Marie Stephan delighted the home crowd when
she beat English Georgina Kennedy 3/1. And as it always
happens, she'll meet another French girl, Cyrielle Peltier
tomorrow!
Anna Klimundova didn't manage to beat Alison
Thompson - despite the support of her boyfriend Lucas
Serme who was coaching her - and the English girl goes on to
meet Nele Gilis. Next year, Anna will be studying
in La Sorbonne and also train with Lucas, Camille, Coline
and the Créteil Pôle. Nice to have Lucas back in France!
The fourt qualifier is Mayar Hany, who broke the
French crowd's heart when she beat Enora Villard in
three games to set up a meeting with Laura Pomportes.
Tomorrow, the longest day with eight matches. We'll keep you
informed all day long, of course ...
