La première titrée aujourd'hui est
l'anglaise Torrie Malik vainqueur de sa compatriote Asia Harris.
Après un premier jeu serré, Torrie prend vite le large et décroche son
adversaire grâce à ses frappes puissantes. Elle remporte ainsi l'Open de
France en U13.
Un tournoi parfait pour l'anglaise puisqu'elle n'a pas encaissé le
moindre jeu.
First gold to England with a big
upset, Torrie Malik - sister of Summer Malik, who is fighting
against a brain tumour and the object of a huge worldwide campaign to
help his parents pay for an extremely expensive treatment - overcame
compatriot and seed 2 Asia Harris thanks to a powerful squash.
Quite amazing event for Torrie as she never dropped a game... |

 La
finale garçons a été plus serrée. Le néerlandais Rowan Damming a
opté pour un jeu à risques en tentant de terminer les points en quelques
coups de raquettes, avec beaucoup de prises de risques. Cela s'est avéré
payant face au gaucher Caleb Boy.
Malgré un gros passage à vide dans le deuxième jeu, Rowan Damming
décroche le titre en U13 grâce à une bonne gestion des moments
importants.
 The
U13 boys final was much closer. The Dutch chose a high percentage
squash, tyring to finish the points quickly.
It did work against lefthander Caleb Boy, although it seemed the English
had managed to turn the tables when he beggled his opponent in the
second!
But the Dutch reassessed and clinched the next two, 12/10, 11/9.
Never in doubt... |

C'est véritablement la première finale à
suspense !
Pourtant, les deux premiers jeux sont à sens unique, avec Amber
Copley qui déroule à merveille son jeu offensif sans que Maia
Pannell ne trouve de solution.
 Dans
le troisième jeu, cette dernière allonge ses coups, et domine peu à peu
le T, et égalise à deux jeux partout. Le dernier jeu est très tendu,
mais Amber Copley place de beaux coups d'attaque tandis que Maia
Pannell cherche trop souvent les décisions.
Amber Copley remporte donc le titre, et réalise l'exploit de gagner le
titre en n'étant pas tête de série.
First truly nail bitting final of
the day!
Started well for Amber though, the major upset of the tournament, who
goes ahead 2/0 but finds that Maia's deep game causes her more and more
troubles, losing the next two!
Fifth is anybody's really, but Amber's short game makes the difference,
while we are told that Maia was focusing a bit too much on the ref... |

finale U15 a été un vrai duel de finesse technique entre le tchèque
Marek Panacek et l'anglais Adam Goad.
C'est la tête de série n°1 qui débute le mieux le match, étant offensif
et précis dans ces coups, et mène très vite 2-0. C'est à ce moment que
l'anglais change de style, et provoque les fautes de son adversaire. Il
revient dans le match et égalise.
Dans le dernier jeu, l'anglais domine et occupe le T. Malgré la superbe
défense de son adversaire, il finit par s'imposer et décroche le titre.
A superb technical match between Czech Marek Panacek and
English Adam Goad.
A good start from the #1, aggressive and accurate at the front, leading
quickly 2/0. But a good change of game plan for the English, managing to
frustrate his opponent and forced errors out of him. We are back at 2/2.
In the 5th, Adam is firmly planted on the T, and despite a superb
defence from Marek, it's the English that is crowned... |

polonaise Karina Tyma confirme sa superbe performance de la
veille en finale. Dans cette finale, elle développe parfaitement son
jeu, et joue avec beaucoup de patience et précision. Son adversaire
commet trop de fautes.
Fleur Maas sauvera 6 balles de match dans le troisième jeu mais il est
trop tard. Karina Tyma décroche ainsi le titre en U17.
 Despite
Fleur saving six match balls, the name of Karina - based in
Bristol, English home of the Bagy Brothers - was always on the GU17
trophy it seems.
She picked up where she left off the previous day, imposing her game -
patient &accurate - forcing a lot of errors out of her Dutch opponent's
racquet... |

finale a mis en lumière deux joueurs qui ont connu des parcours très
différents : Yannick Wilhelmi a connu quelques gros matchs sur
son parcours, dont son quart de finale contre l'anglais Samuel Todd,
tandis que Viktor Rybus n'a pas perdu un jeu et n'a pas eu à
forcer son talent pour atteindre la finale.
Très vite, le tchèque met en place son jeu puissant, et fait courir le
suisse. Malgré un troisième jeu totalement manqué, le tchèque est
largement devant tandis que le suisse accuse le coup. Viktor Rybus
s'accorde même quelques coups fantasques et décroche le titre en U17.
It was a question of who was the fresher at the end of those long 4
days. And it was the Czech that was to be honest. Viktor hadn't lost a
single game throughout, while the Swiss had to battle out the whole time
- including a very hard match against Sam Todd in the quarters.
From the start, Viktor imposes his powerful and makes the court very big
for Yannick, forced to cover a heck of a lot of ground. And if the Czech
writes off a bad 3rd (11/1), he takes the U17 title allowing himself to
show off a few of his tricks in the 4th...

deux joueuses étant jusqu'ici impériales, cette finale était assez
indécise. Elle a finalement été plus expéditive que prévue, tant
Hannah Craig a développé un jeu précis avec d'excellents coups vers
l'avant du court.
L'irlandaise, qui a participé au dernier championnat d'Europe senior,
n'a laissé aucune chance à chacune de ses adversaires durant ce tournoi.
Elle est d'ailleurs la seule de cette édition 2017 à remporter le
tournoi en étant tête de série n°1, avec la manière qui plus est.

to the final, both players had been untouchable, and nobody could
predict the outcome of their encounter. Strangely enough it was more
onesided that could have been anticipated, as Hannah's accuracy and
short game was dominant today.
The Irish confirms her dominance of the event, the only # to win an age
group, with some panache as well...

La petite finale franco-française a
tourné à l'avantage de la revenante Laura Gamblin.
Plus agressive, elle n'a laissé aucune chance à Maëlle Fuhrer de
prendre confiance dans ce match. Cette dernière, malgré une bonne
défense, s'est montrée trop timide. Grâce à cette victoire, la
cristolienne Laura Gamblin décroche ainsi la médaille de bronze !
Elle est donc la seule française à remporter une médaille. |

 Cette
finale en U19 a failli offrir un véritable retournement de situation.
Après un excellent départ, le tchèque David Zeman menait très
vite 2-0 et semblait filer tout droit vers la victoire. Mais le belge
Jeeva a réagi, et profitant d'une excellente main, a offert quelques
coups spectaculaires pour le plus grand bonheur du public présent. Le
quatrième jeu, très tendu, a permis au belge d'y croire un peu plus.
 Mais
le tchèque sert le jeu fortement en début de cinquième jeu, et prend
vite le large. Sanjay Jeeva se bat, en vain. David Zeman est donc
le second tchèque de cette édition à décrocher le titre. Des résultats
particulièrement satisfaisants pour cette nation émergente du squash.
The writing seemed to be on the wall after Czech David Zeman led 2/0
rather quickly, but out of the blue, Belgium Sanjay Jeeva found some
delightful atttacking squash that seduced the audience, take the match
to a decider.
But the Czech was able to reassess his game in the closing part of the
match, taking a great start and a comfortable leed. Sanjay never gave up
but couldn't close the gap, losing the game 11/4.
It's the second Czech that takes a gold (after Viktor Byrtus in BU17),
and that's a great result for the emerging Squash Nation... |
