PETIT RESUME RAPIDE
Vous avez les mots des joueurs français en français, et des
joueurs anglais en anglais. Et les articles des matches presque
tous en anglais.
Pour la journée, une grosse déception pour Damien Volland,
qui se blesse dès le deuxième jeu cet après-midi. Côté français,
le derby Petrucci/Dadot tourne à l'avantage du Corse 3/0,
et celui de Pontière contre Masotti pour Florent, sur le
même score 3/0.
Pour les "étrangers", Hugo Varela crée la surprise en
travaillant très dur pour sortir la tête de série des qualifs
Alex Philipps 3/1, Mark Fuller bat Kim Are Killingberg,
Richard Birks là aussi surprend en sortant Patrick
Miescher, ts 4, et Sebastiaan Weenick ne prend pas de
prisonnier et exécute le jeune Quint Mandil 3/0.
Dans les finales des qualifs, celui qui avait bénéficié du
forfait de Damien se blesse lui aussi dans le deuxième jeu,
apparemment un gros problème de ménisque.
Gros match de Monsieur Petrucci, qui profite du fait que son
adversaire n'est pas tout frais, et joue un excellent match,
Mark Fuller a un mal fou à se débarrasser de l'arapède Florent
Pontière, qui bien qu'étant dans le rouge, s'accroche sur toutes
les balles, et sort un gros match.
 Et
le meilleur pour la fin, James contre Sébastiaan. James devait
logiquement gagner, 2/1, puis 8/5 dans le 5ème....
... Mais le Hollandais trouve son meilleur jeu pour finir, et
force son adversaire à faire quelques fautes en fin de match... |

Le Piaf en forme....
 For
those who don't know Antoine-Camille, he is a boy you say
hello to, and he tells you his whole story, bless him. Hence his
nickname "Le Piaf", colloquial for the bird - chatter box if you
prefer.
Today, he had a good run. He was not that secure this morning to
play Jérôme Dadot, and was fearing a 3/2. Lucky for him, Jérôme
was not at his best, and the Corsican boy - yes, not only he is
a chatter box, but corsican as well - managed to secure a 3/0
win.
 On
the other hand, Hugo had to work pretty hard this morning
to oust seed 1 Alex Philipps in 4 very close game (10/12, 12/10,
11/7, 15/13), and I feel he didn't fully recover from that hard
encounter.
Le Piaf studies in some prestigious Uni like in Paris, and is
one of the only people I know (with Tarek and Thierry) who
manage a uni with squash pro. I find that amazing....
 "I
never would have been able to do only studies, but at the same
time, I don't think I would have been happy doing 100% squash"
he told us last night.
One of those hungry boys, that need to see and do so much. You
can't help loving him really. |
J'ai arrêté de m'entraîner pour mes partiels, mais j'avais bien
travaillé avant, et là, en Corse, j'ai bien joué avec des
partenaires d'entraînement, et j'ai récupéré mon physique.
J'avais de la marge dans les deux derniers, par contre, au premier,
un gros passage à vide à 8/4, il prend 5 points d'affilés pour
revenir à 9/8, et je finis par gagner 12/10. Là, c'était chaud!
Le reste du match, j'ai été bien serein et calme, bien relâché....

I
felft on top of most of the rallies, but he never gave up and kept
getting the ball back, running, diving, and made it very hard.
A few weeks ago, we played French League, and I was comfortably 2/0
and match ball up. He managed to come back and to sneak in the 3rd,
and the 4th was very close, so today, I wanted to make sure to close
it down in the 3rd, cause he looks tired but in fact, he is very
fit...

 This
was a good match, Mark played a tight squash, found some good
length and nice attacks which put the Frenchman in the red from
the middle of the second.
But bless his heart, Florent never gave up, kept on flying
everywhere Ramy like, and making rallies really long, running on
fumes really.
A very entertaining match indeed, that the Englishman was
clearly relieved not to have to play a 4th game.
"I try and make it hard physically, because I have no touch
whatsover", said a heartbroken French boy at the end....

I'll sleep well tonight, hopefully!
In the fifth, I don't remember the score at all, which is good news,
as it means the voices in my head were gone....
He played incredibly well, I never played him before, but I saw him
play.
In the first game, I was up rather comfortably, but in the second,
he started to hit great shots, and I find him very hard to read.
In the end, he made more errors than I did, for which I'm very
grateful...

WEIRD COINCIDENCE
 We
had a second injury tonight, this afternoon, it was French boy
Damien Volland, and tonight, Swiss Jonas Daehler. Funny
thing, Jonas was actually the one that benefited from Damien's
injury...
Apparently, doctor said it looks like a meniscus problem for
Jonas, quad for Damien.
 Now,
the boys kept the best for last in my humble opinion, as
Sebastiaan and James played a superb match from the first
rally to the last.
They both worked their racquet off, with flair, determination
and fairness. The kind of match you would like to see every
time.
James looked good 2/1 then and 8/5 up in the 5th, but
Sebastiaan, in a zone, just strung point after point, leaving
the Englishman a bit on the back foot, and forcing him to make
that many unforced errors... |

NÎMES, HERE I COME
In English... Hello Boys and Girls. While Cubs is in
Sheffield for the traditional BJO, and the big boys and girls
are in London, I am in the beautiful town of Nîmes to
report on a PSA, a Girls' National and a Men's regional.
Needless to say I'll be a bit busy this weekend, especially as
the WSFinals and the BJO have to be treated as well! I never
intended to sleep anyway...
We start at 12.45 French time with the first round of the
qualifications, second round tonight from 17h45.
We should have a few nice matches already today, will keep you
inform as ever.
Et en français... qu'est-ce que ça donne. Eh bien, non,
je ne suis pas à Londres pour le WSFinals, hélas. Mais bon,
Nîmes est une si belle ville, même l'hiver....
On a donc un PSA - qualifications aujourd'hui à 12h45 pour le
premier tour, 17h45 pour le second - un national filles qui
commence demain dans l'après-midi, et un régional homme qui
commence vers 18h00.
Occupée je vais être!

d'hab.

bit of a surprise for the first match on, as the number 1
qualifier lost in a very close match indeed. Alex Philips
started the match really well, 5/0, but Hugo Varela soon
started to shorten the rallies, and found some great attacks.
And on this cold court, it worked wonders.
The Englishboy still clinched the first game, but lost the next
two, and found himself match ball down 10/6. Finding a new
energy and having nothing to lose, Alex got back to 10/10 - we
could see that the Spanish was having little troubles with a
cramp in the left calve and got 3 game balls of his own. But on
his 5th match ball, Hugo prevails...
 Pour
Antoine-Camille, un départ sur les chapeaux de roues qui
semble cramer un peu le corse, mais qui se ressaisit, 8/8, et
prend le premier jeu 11/8. Le reste du match sera bien dominé
par le Piaf, avec un Jérôme qui s'est battu sur toutes
les balles, mais n'est pas parvenu à mettre son adversaire sous
pression suffisamment pour l'empêcher de placer de superbes
coups d'attaques... |
I was not at my best last night, a bit of a pain in the chess, so,
not the best of starts. When I found myself 5/0 down, I decided to
play my game, go for shots instead of trying to lengthen the
rallies, and it worked fine until the end of the match.
At 10/6, I started to cramp, and changed my tactic, not the best
decision, but when you are at match ball, a lot of things go through
your head. And I was very lucky to win the 4th, because I think he
would have won the match had he taken the 4th...

J'ai perdu au 1er tour des qualifs sur
le score de 3/0 contre Antoine Camille... Les courts froids de Nîmes
ont été favorable à son jeux d'attaque. J'étais constamment sur la
défensive. A aucun moment il m'a laissé l'opportunité d'attaquer.
Je suis un peu déçu et dégouté d'avoir perdu mais bon cela me montre
que j'ai encore beaucoup de chemin a parcourir si je veux espérer
faire du haut niveau...
Maintenant je retourne à l'entraînement pour préparer les qualifs
pour les championnats de France 1ère série.

I didn't play many competitive matches
for a while, so, when things were working fine, it was ok, but then,
when they were not...
In the third, he made a couple of good winners, and I made a couple
a unforced errors. But I'm happy I managed to settle in the end. I
would say that 80% of the match was good squash.
It's my first PSA win for a while!!!

 Je
n'ai pas franchement trouvé mes longueurs sur ce match, mais lui
a fait beaucoup de fautes sur les deux premiers jeux.
Je n'attaquais pas assez, et quand j'attaquais, ce n'était pas
assez précis. Donc, j'ai fini par jouer 1/3 de coups gagnant, le
reste des fautes de sa part.
Au 3ème, je me suis trop relâché, et il en a profité, et
surtout, il a fait moins de fautes. Je me suis retrouvé balle de
jeu contre moi, 10/9. Un peu de chance à la fin, je fais un coup
boisé qui termine au milieu, et lui fait un retour dans la
plaque sur la balle de match...

After dominating the first game
rather easily, French Damien Volland hurt his right quads
badly at 1/0 for the Swiss in the second. Unable to put any kind
of pressure on his leg, he had to withdraw from the competition.
Happy, Jonas Daehler, as he saved a lot of energy there,
especially as Richard Birks and Patrick Miescher
played a pretty hard and disputed match that nearly went to 5,
with long and good rallies.
Let's see how Richard will feel tonight after only a few hours
of rest this evening....
 L'année
commence mal pour moi, blessure au quadriceps lors de mon premier
tour des qualifs.
J'avais pourtant bien commencé le match, je rentre très vite dedans
en menant 11/4 le premier et ensuite 2 eme points du deuxième jeux
grosse douleurs a la cuisse droite, j'ai quand même continué en
espérant que ça passe mais non.
Dommage car il y avait la place aujourd'hui et je me sentais bien !
J'espère que c'est pas trop grave car il y a les qualifs première
série dans deux semaine ..
Bonne chance aux autres français en course

At the end of the 2nd, I got a bit tired and didn't volley that much.
He took control and I struggled from that point on.
The court is very cold, but the back corners are a bit more bouncy,
and I find that volleying on that court is quite rewarding.
I'm lucky it didn't go to 5!!!!

Bonjour Framboise,
voici donc le 30ème OPEN du GARD , tournoi PSA et
National Féminin accompagnés d'un régional masculin.
C'est une longévité sans équivalent en France dont nous somme
très fiers.
Pour marquer cet événement, tu as accepté de venir nous
rejoindre à Nîmes et faire vivre cet anniversaire en direct:
nous t'en remercions beaucoup.
Nous allons nous retrousser les manches et mobiliser toutes les
forces de l'AS pour réussir ce tournoi (Didier K et Didier M,
Sean F, Florian I, Michael C et Michael F, Corine B, Laurent N,
Bibi qui nous fait le plaisir de revenir passer quelques jours
avec nous, Dany et moi).
Les qualifications du tournoi PSA commencerons le vendredi à
12h45 ( 2ème tour prévu à partir de 17h)
Bien sur l'accès au club est ouvert à tout le monde tout au long
du week-end ou nous espérons vous voir nombreux
